English Chapel Friends

I've loved being involved in English Chapel this semester. God is doing great work! These are some key players in that chapel.

This was the coolest room. Some of the students decorated their rooms for the event. Post it notes lined the whole room. (even the ceiling) I wonder how long that took?

The Open Dorm Festival

A co-worker and English Chapel drummer and I.
Open dorm doesn't happen very often here. In this room they were playing a live soccer game on the wall through a projection TV. Hey, they are modern here! Go Korea!

Little Things Are A Big Deal

Wow. It is the end of the semester and I'm beyond exhausted. I need to learn how to rest better! It has been a good semester, so good I feel it. ; ) One way I'm resting better is through my newest "toy". I bought an air conditioning unit for my one room apartment. A friend helped me get it. She has Korean connections. It takes connections so often just to get something accomplished. A pastor at a Nazarene Church came from another city with a parishioner to install a used and very nice air conditioner. The pastor even got his black suit dirty helping in the process. (It was his day off) They had to drill a whole in my wall to the outside. Dust went everywhere and I had to spend the afternoon cleaning the mess. However, it was well worth it. What a gift to have a cool room! Everywhere in the USA, well most places, have aircon. But not here. It is amazing how something as little (to me) as aircon is such a big deal here. It is fun to be excited about something as simple as aircon. I can't say I've ever been so excited before about having a cool room. I'm spoiled, I know. Little things are a big deal, aren't they!

How Do You Make Noodles, Again?

So how long does it take to forget how to cook pasta?  I’m not talking anything fancy like fettuccine or tortellini.  I’m not even talking spaghetti.  I’m simply referring to pasta noodles.  It is simple right?  I’ve been cooking noodles since I was a little girl.  I made mac and cheese.  I remember reading the directions and finding it was quiet easy, boil the water, add the mac, when the noodles are soft drain the water and add butter and cheese powder.  Sounds good.  As easy as it sounds, tonight I learned something..  It takes 2 years to forget how to make pasta.

Two years in Korea and I’ve never once cooked spaghetti.  I’ve eaten it but never made my own.   Who needs noodles when you have a rice cooker? Two years away from cooking noodles and what do I do?  I added water to a pot, poured in a whole box of noodles and started cooking them.  Then I noticed the sogg!  They turned out so soggy .  I was wondering why.  I had a sneaking suspicion I had done something wrong.  And then a flashback…  Oh, right, bring the water to a boil and then add water.  If you don’t you get soggy noodles.  And they were soggy.  I doused them in marinara sauce and covered them with parmesan cheese…it was almost enough to convince me it was a great meal.  I can not believe it has taken me two years to forget how to make something as simple as noodles.  And I laughed when I realized I cooked the pasta as if I was cooking rice in my rice cooker.  “Just add water and wait for it to get soft.”  I’m being Asian-ized!  I forgot how to cook noodles.  I wonder what else I’ve forgotten?
